Boca Grande enjoys an impressive community center with facilities including an auditorium for town hall, live theatre and group meetings, also a fitness center, lighted tennis courts, basketball court and children's playground. The Boca Grande Health Clinic houses an outstanding medical clinic along with emergency medical services which can respond to any island emergency in four minutes or less. The county Sheriff's department and Marine Patrol staff are located across from the Health Clinic.
The discovery of phosphate and the railroad built to transport it in 1912 transformed the island from an economy solely based on fishing to one which brought many winter visitors from the North. Tarpon fishing and the mining of phosphate changed Gasparilla Island from a quiet outpost in the early 1900's to a favored vacation destination it is today.

Kevin Hyde has a long history with Boca Grande. As far back as the early 1970’s while living in St. Petersburg Beach Florida, Kevin would come to Boca Grande with his family during Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing Season and stay at the Gasparilla Inn. In 1992 Kevin moved to Alaska with his wife Kim and son Evan. “ We moved to Alaska for the Adventure of it”. In Alaska, Kevin traveled extensively and spent time in remote Native Villages and the Gold and Copper Mining districts of the interior. During this time, Kevin and his family regularly returned to Boca Grande for family vacations.
When Kevin & his family returned to Florida he began his full time Real Estate career working with clients in Boca Grande, Little Gasparilla Island, Palm Island, Manasota Key, Placida Florida and Cape Haze . “The day I became an Associate at Gasparilla Properties was a great day for me. Every man’s desire is do something he loves”. Kevin loves Boca Grande and the dynamic nature of the Real Estate business.
